Feelings of gratitude are increased by voluntary suffering. After suffering a lack of hot water, food, or air conditioning for a while, it’s difficult to not be grateful for these things. It fosters gratitude for what we already have. Most of the time, we assume that our fundamental needs will be provided.

Consider this. How often have you pushed yourself beyond your comfort zone yet felt wonderful afterwards? Most of the time, when we face our fears or uncomfortable feelings and successfully complete the task at hand, our confidence soars. Every time we practise discomfort, we push the boundaries of our comfort zone.

Seneca counselled it is good for you to act to be impoverished for a few days. Wear ratty clothing (such as worn-out pants and a white T-shirt), eat little and inexpensively (such as rationed hard bread and water), and if you’re really desperate, spend the night beneath a bridge. Basically, get a taste of what it’s like to be homeless.

Make yourself feel uncomfortable in ways you wouldn’t normally. You’ll get stronger as a result. Don’t merely consider these ideas; really practise them. And while conditions are favourable, act immediately. Seneca tells us that the spirit should toughen itself up in advance for situations of higher stress exactly in times of immunity from care. If you want a man to be unflinching in a crisis, train him beforehand.

You can actively say no to enjoyable events as an alternative to putting yourself in difficult situations. Not because you worry about becoming an addict or because it’s unhealthy, but rather so you can practise self-control and feel uncomfortable, you could turn down the chance to have a glass of wine. Or you decide not to go out drinking with the guys, watch your favourite sports team, or decline the chocolate treat your granny offers you. It appears that the Stoics were adamantly opposed to enjoyment.

Happiness is a goal that everyone aspires to. Nobody likes to feel down and unhappy. People who have established good habits and also put them into practice are more likely to survive difficulties and troubles in their daily lives. People that are joyful do experience pain, sorrow, or despair; they just do not allow it to rule their lives.
Happy individuals have the following behaviours as habits:


Cherish Life


Be grateful for each morning that you can wake up. Develop a sense of amazement for life similar to a child’s. Think about how beautiful everything that lives is. Aim to maximise each day. Nothing should be taken for granted. Don’t worry about little things.
Pick friends carefully.
Be in the company of joyful, upbeat individuals who share your beliefs and aspirations. Your ethically compatible friends will motivate you to achieve your goals. They promote self-confidence in you. When assistance is required, they are there to provide it.


Are Considerate


Recognize and respect individuals for who they are and where they are in life. Show them respect for who they are. Engage them with a heart of kindness and generosity. When you can, lend a hand without attempting to influence the other person. Make an effort to make everyone you encounter’s a day better.


Problem-solvers in a Creative Way


Don’t wallow in your own misery. As soon as you encounter a problem, start working on a solution. Do not allow the setbacks to impact your attitude; rather, consider each new difficulty as a chance to transform your life for the better. Learn to trust your intuition; it nearly always has the right answer.


They Mind Their Own Business


Focus on building the life you want for yourself. Take care of your family and yourself. Don’t worry too much about what others are doing or saying. Avoid engaging in rumours or judging people. Be impartial. Everyone, including you, has the freedom to live their own life however they want.


Optimism


Consider the glass to be half full. Consider the good aspects of every scenario. Even if it is difficult to locate, it is there. Even if you might never understand why anything occurs, be aware that everything does so for a reason. Avoid having unfavourable ideas. Replace any negative thoughts that may arise with positive ones.
